Starting early morning from Satara, I embarked on a scenic road trip to Matheran, enjoying the fresh cool air and open roads. The journey through Pune and Lonavala took about 6-7 hours, with breathtaking views of lush green mountains and winding ghats along the way. A quick stop near Khopoli for some spicy vada pav and hot tea was a perfect pitstop. Reaching Neral as the sun began to set, I found the famous toy train to Matheran was not operating, so we drove till Dasturi Point and then continued on foot and horseback to the vehicle-free hill station.
Matheran’s pollution-free environment and peaceful atmosphere were refreshing. Exploring spots like Charlotte Lake, Eco Point, and Panorama Point, the panoramic views of the Sahyadri ranges were simply mesmerizing. The local market offered beautiful handmade souvenirs, and enjoying hot bhaji and korfdi juice in the evening wrapped up the day perfectly. Matheran offers many budget-friendly resorts for overnight stays, making it an ideal weekend getaway.
